Picture of Eberhard Brossok Surfaced 05.07.2024
After lengthy research, we have managed to find a picture of Eberhard Brossok in the state archives of North Rhine-Westphalia. He was District Administrator of Wittgenstein from 1929 to 1933. In this function, he also campaigned politically for the German Democratic Party. This led to his dismissal by the National Socialists in March 1933. Eberhard Brossok's life story can be read on this page under the Portraits tab. His written legacy can be found in the family archive. Incorrect interpretation of the surname 05.12.2023
For many years, family research into the Brossok family focused on the interpretation of their own surname. Everything pointed to a Prussian origin of the family. The surname Brossok was interpreted as Prussian, which is basically correct. But for many years the wrong direction was taken. Towards the Prussian people.
The solution lay in the oldest known spelling of our name: Prosoke.
This is a phonetic variant of the Polish Prusak, also Prusok in Silesian. It means the German Prussian, from the Polish side the German in the first place. Who could have guessed that, and this was the mistake for many years. For the Poles, the Prussians were first and foremost the Germans! This means that we are not of Prussian descent, but of Silesian descent. We have always been Silesian Germans, we were even called that, Brossok=Prosoke=Preussian=the German
This also clearly matches all the birthplaces of our ancestors before the Second World War, as they were all born in Silesia.
Our greatest thanks go to Dr. Christiane Schiller from the Humboldt University in Berlin. Thanks to her expertise, this decades-old mystery has finally been solved.
Old Brossok grave 11/25/2023
After research, we managed to find the still existing grave of Carl Anton Brossok (1810-1842, teacher and organist). He was the youngest brother of Johann Anton Joseph Brossok (1801-1876), our ancestor of the House of Neuhof. The grave is located near Wroclaw and is an astonishing 180 years old! If that's not even worth a trip to the old homeland of Silesia! (The exact location can be provided upon request)
